Overview
Current Phase of Work: Pilot value, Phase 3 – Setting tiered management triggers and actions
Why was employment chosen as a pilot value?
- Employment is an important component of economic self-sufficiency
- One of Metlakatla’s priorities is understanding Metlakatla’s education and training needs to improve educational and employment outcomes for members
- Major projects will contribute to employment opportunities emerging in the territory
Indicators
The condition indicator for employment is high school completion rate. Job eligibility is affected by a range of factors including high school completion, vocational training, post-secondary graduation and barriers to job uptake. We recently revisited Metlakatla’s priorities around the employment value and additional condition and stressor indicators were identified. Unemployment rate and youth unemployment rate will be tracked as condition indicators for employment. Post-secondary education or training completion rate will be included as a stressor indicator.
- Unemployment rate: % of Metlakatla members in the labour force that reported being unemployed (i.e., not working)
- Youth unemployment rate: % of Metlakatla youth (15-24) in the labour force that reported being unemployed
- High school completion rate: % of Metlakatla members that reported completing high school or receiving an equivalent certificate
- Post-secondary education or training completion rate: To be determined
